For Students Entering 6th Grade

Review of 4th–5th Grade Concepts & Pre-Algebra Skills:

  • Understanding and Using Variables: Introduction to the concept of variables in algebraic expressions.

  • Interpreting Numerical Expressions: Evaluating simple expressions with multiple operations.

  • Solving Basic Equations and Inequalities: Learning to solve simple one-step equations and inequalities.

  • Using Coordinate Planes to Plot Points: Plotting points on a coordinate grid and understanding the basics of graphing.

  • Identifying Numerical Patterns and Sequences: Recognizing and continuing numerical patterns such as arithmetic sequences.

For Students Entering 7th Grade

Review of 5th–6th Grade Algebra Readiness:

  • Operations with Positive and Negative Integers: Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers.

  • Writing and Solving Two-Step Equations: Solving equations involving two operations.

  • Understanding Ratios, Rates, and Proportions: Working with ratios and solving proportion problems.

  • Using Variables to Represent Real-World Situations: Writing equations that model real-life scenarios.

  • Analyzing Patterns and Simple Functions: Identifying and continuing patterns, and learning to represent them with functions.

For Students Entering 8th Grade

Review of 6th–7th Grade Pre-Algebra:

  • Solving Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities: Tackling equations that require multiple steps to solve.

  • Working with Exponents and Square Roots: Introduction to exponents and square roots, including basic calculations.

  • Graphing Linear Equations: Plotting linear equations on a coordinate plane.

  • Understanding Slope and Y-Intercept: Exploring the concept of slope and y-intercept in linear functions.

  • Identifying Proportional vs. Non-Proportional Relationships: Differentiating between proportional and non-proportional relationships in mathematical contexts.

For Students Entering 9th Grade (Algebra I Prep)

Review of 7th–8th Grade Algebra Foundations:

  • Simplifying Algebraic Expressions: Combining like terms and simplifying expressions.

  • Solving Systems of Equations: Solving systems using substitution and elimination methods.

  • Understanding Function Notation: Interpreting and using function notation for various types of functions.

  • Analyzing Graphs of Linear and Quadratic Functions: Understanding the graphical representation of linear and quadratic equations.
